John Kennedy shares how Neil Lennon is already making summer transfer window plans

Celtic boss Neil Lennon appears to be staying at Parkhead.

Celtic assistant boss John Kennedy has told the Daily Record that Neil Lennon is already playing a key part in the club’s summer plans.

The Bhoys saw Brendan Rodgers leave for Leicester City in February, and decided to go and bring Lennon back in as manager until the end of the season following his exit from Hibernian.

Lennon has so far kept the Celtic ship moving in the right direction, claiming five wins and two draws in his seven games in charge, closing in on another league title.

There are question marks over just whether Lennon is the right man long-term given his style of play, but he is certainly in the box seat for when Celtic make an appointment this summer.

Lennon admitted to the Daily Record last week that he faces a major rebuilding job at Celtic this summer, and it seems that he’s already preparing for that.

Celtic assistant Kennedy has revealed that Lennon has been involved about meetings about the summer transfer plans, starting work early as he looks to ensure that the club have targets lined up for whoever is manager.

Kennedy’s comments hint that Lennon is set to stay at Celtic full-time, as whilst he suggests that the planning would be in place for whoever is in charge, it would be strange for the Bhoys to let Lennon take such a key role in planning then hand the job to somebody else.

“Neil has come in and he is looking at the squad,” said Kennedy. “We have sat down and we have had meetings about next season, if everything goes to plan, and what it might be. He’s involved in terms with, from his perspective, what the club might need, giving his opinion on things and the club has good support behind that who will continue to work and whatever it throws up in the summer, there will be enough options there that whoever is making the decisions will be able to do so.”

“There is a bit of work to be done, there’s no getting away from that. A bit of work in terms of planning, which the club will continue. Hopefully, when that happens, it’ll be pretty smooth and we’ll hit the ground running next season,” he added.
