Celtic boss left for Leicester City in stunning move.
Brendan Rodgers stunned Celtic this week by walking out on the club to join Leicester City.
Rodgers’ move has been widely criticised, with Celtic still having two trophies to play for.
His former assistant John Kennedy has shed new light on Rodgers’ departure which does not reflect well on him.
Kennedy told the Daily Record that Rodgers did not inform Celtic’s players of his plans.
He said: “Did Brendan speak with the players? No. He left about Monday lunchtime. He came out to training as normal and, to be fair, when he left the building, nothing was done or decided.
“He was just going at that moment in time to have chats, so the players weren’t aware of it as news broke through.
“Peter Lawwell arrived at the training ground in the afternoon, discussed the possible plans and told me that I was wanted here.
“He told me to prepare the team and if there was an appointment that I’d be assistant manager.”
Kennedy is working under Rodgers’ interim replacement Neil Lennon.
Rodgers will take charge of his first Leicester City game this weekend when they travel to Watford.
The nature of Rodgers’ sudden departure has been criticised and Kennedy’s comments do not help the former Celtic boss.
After working closely with him all season, and for many two years prior, Celtic’s players would have hoped Rodgers would have told them directly of his exit before it was announced.
