Celtic coach John Kennedy has told the Daily Record that Stuart Armstrong is set to sign a new contract at Parkhead.

Armstrong has enjoyed the finest spell of his career this season, with the 25-year-old being a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Armstrong’s creative streak has come to fore, with the attacking midfielder proving vital to Celtic’s offensive play.

The former Dundee United’s man’s form has not gone unnoticed though, with a host of Premier League clubs now linked.

Armstrong has just over a year left on his current deal at Celtic, but Kennedy has hinted that any speculation over the central-midfielder’s future will be ended soon.

He said: “Talks have been going pretty well with Stuart and his representatives and the club.

“Stuart has loved it here and I think he is in a very good place.

“As much as adding to the squad, the important thing is getting players like Stuart tied down. That is probably more important for us.

“But as far as I’m aware, Stuart is in a very good place and wants to get it done. Hopefully things will be done pretty soon.”

If Celtic can tie down Armstrong, it will be a major boost for Rodgers – as he plans to take his side to the next level.

Celtic are still yet to lose a domestic game in any competition since Rodgers took charge, and the Bhoys are looking to conquer Europe next term.

Armstrong has scored 17 goals for Celtic this season, and claimed seven assists.
