Celtic’s Vakoun Issouf Bayo is impressing Brendan Rodgers.
John Kennedy has revealed to Celtic View that new signing Vakoun Issouf Bayo is already showcasing his talents in training.
Celtic signed the Ivorian striker for £2 million a little earlier this month [Herald Scotland].
Bayo joins the Hoops with a goalscoring reputation to uphold after netting 18 times across 23 games in Slovakia.
The 22-year-old only had two days of training with his new team-mates in Brendan Rodgers’s warm weather camp in Dubai.
But Rodgers’ coach Kennedy claims that the Northern Irishman has already seen a series of promising signs from the big striker.
“What the manager has seen in him is that he’s got a good presence, good speed and he’s athletic,” he told Celtic View. “In and around the box, he’s also very powerful, he’s very aggressive in the air.
“When teams are camped in and trying to defend the box, he’s the type of player who can give you the option of going around the outside, getting balls into the box and that’s where he comes into his own.
“He scores a lot of his goals from set-pieces and cross balls. He’s different in terms of balance from the other boys we have brought in.”
Rodgers’s side host Airdrie in a Scottish Cup clash this weekend but it remains to be seen whether Bayo will be involved.
Timothy Weah, who joined on a half-season loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has had more time in Celtic’s squad than Bayo and Rodgers might be tempted to use him and Odsonne Edouard, if the plan is to go with two strikers.
