Nick Kyrgios will be hoping to have a resurgent run at the Australian Open this year.

After Kyrgios beat Aryna Sabalenka in the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ match, he made his return to the ATP Tour at the Brisbane International.

Despite competing again, it has still yet to be confirmed whether Kyrgios will actually receive an Australian Open wildcard.

With speculation continuing over whether Kyrgios will actually compete in Melbourne, John Isner and Steve Johnson have revealed how well they think he could do at the Australian Open.

John Isner gives his verdict on Nick Kyrgios’ Australian Open chances

Isner is a former top 10 player and has insisted that Kyrgios is deserving of a singles wildcard at the Australian Open this year when speaking about it on the Nothing Major Podcast.

After making this claim, his co-host and former Wimbledon semifinalist Sam Querrey asked Isner if Kyrgios could reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Isner was quick to dismiss this possibility, before former top 30 player Johnson suggested that Kyrgios winning one match may be the best outcome for him.

Querrey: Does he have any chance to make a quarterfinal or better?

Isner: No.

Querrey: Are we all in agreeance on this one?

Johnson: I think he can win one match, it’s just the body he hasn’t played in forever that’s the issue. Can he physically hold up he hasn’t shown that he can do it whatever for three, four years now, even if he plays one match. His level’s there but he’s just not going to be able to sustain it. I don’t see it, but yeah the crowd will be full, the stands will be packed, no doubt about it.

What is Nick Kyrgios’ best ever result at the Australian Open?

Kyrgios has dealt with many different injury problems in recent years, having undergone surgeries on both his knee and wrist.

This has meant that Kyrgios has only played one Grand Slam singles match since 2022, which came when he lost in the first round of the Australian Open last year.

Kyrgios’ best result in Melbourne came in 2015, when he reached the quarterfinals at just 19 years old.

There are still three remaining wildcards for the Australian Open men’s singles draw, with both Kyrgios and former champion Stan Wawrinka awaiting to see their fates.

If Kyrgios does receive a wildcard then he will make his 11th main draw appearance at his home major, which begins on Sunday, January 18.
