John Hartson has suggested that Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side should have snapped up the midfielder before he moved to Aston Villa.

Celtic have failed to strengthen so far this summer, and the deficiencies in their squad have been exposed.
The Bhoys crashed out of the Champions League last night, after losing 2-1 to AEK Athens in Greece.
Celtic’s defence looked weak, and their midfield was ineffective, and Hartson feels that losing out on McGinn to Villa was a major blow for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“They should have added McGinn,” he said. “They should have added better defenders, more numbers. The McGinn deal should have been done [in June]. Celtic dragged their heels.”
Celtic wanted McGinn from Hibernian for months, with Brendan Rodgers a massive admirer.

However, the Bhoys failed to get a deal over the line, and Villa acted promptly to sign the midfielder, following their takeover.
McGinn has made a fine start at Villa, with his debut performance earning him a great deal of praise.
And Celtic’s board may now realise that they need to make additions before the end of the month, otherwise there is a fear that Rodgers’ side could go backwards this season.
