Should Celtic stick with Scott Bain in goal?

Scott Bain of Celtic is seen during the Rangers v Celtic Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match at Ibrox Stadium on March 11, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Scott Bain has been a key part of Celtic’s unbeaten run in recent weeks, starting the last five consecutive Premiership games.

In all five matches he has kept clean sheets.

Despite this, pundit John Hartson believes he should be dropped for this week’s Europa League game with Valencia.

Hartson believes Craig Gordon’s experience makes him a better option for the tie.

He told The Evening Times: “I would lean towards big Craig Gordon, simply because I believe his experience gives him the edge for a game of this magnitude.

“Gordon has played in a lot of big European matches, and he has also been an international goalkeeper for years.

“It is a difficult call, because Bain has been playing regularly and that is important for a goalkeeper, but the fact that Gordon has been there before and made those outstanding saves throughout his career on the big stage makes me lean towards him.”

Craig Gordon of Celtic warm's up before their Betfred Cup Semi-Final between Hibernian and Celtic at Hampden Park on October 21, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Gordon has the experience, but at some point Celtic have to separate themselves from that and simply pick the in form player.

The veteran has lacked game time recently and bringing him in now could be a mistake.

Picking Gordon ahead of Bain risks disrupting the defence, which has also seen an upturn in form in recent weekss.

Scott Bain of Celtic warms up ahead of his debut prior to the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on March 11, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
