John Hartson has told The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic must sign another striker, even if Timothy Weah joins the Hoops.

On Saturday, the 18-year-old, who has followed a number of Brendan Rodgers’s squad on social media, dropped a big hint that he could be heading to Parkhead after revealing on Instagram that he was watching the Bhoys in action against Rangers.

With Leigh Griffiths absent due to personal reasons, Odsonne Edouard is Rodgers’s only recognised striker, and even then there are fitness doubts after picking up an injury shortly before Christmas.

Celtic legend Hartson told The GET: “Timothy Weah looks like a done deal with it simply a matter of when rather than if he arrives but at just 18, I think Celtic still need another forward in.

“We don’t know when Leigh Griffiths will be back and nor do we know the extent of Odsonne Edouard’s injury.

“In saying that, I think that Brendan will have regretted his choice not to start with Odsonne on Saturday, whether he was struggling or not.”

New York-born Weah, who has eight caps for the United States and one goal, is a major talent, and clearly comes from good stock by virtue of the fact that he is the son of iconic George Weah.

But Hartson is right. Celtic do need another goalscorer even if he comes in and speculation is rife [The Record] that the Northern Irishman wants Ivorian marksman Vakoun Issouf Bayo.
