Celtic will be preparing for the final Old Firm clash of the season which takes place on Sunday.
John Hartson has admitted that he was left ‘surprised’ by the fact that Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer wasn’t nominated for the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award.
The Scottish PFA, as posted on their official Twitter account, recently awarded players up and down the country for their performances this season, with Celtic’s James Forrest winning the main prize and Rangers winger Ryan Kent being named YPOTY.
Despite a stellar season at the heart of the Celtic’s defence, it will surprise many that 21-year-old Ajer wasn’t even in the running for the prize.
Former Parkhead striker Hartson echoed those thoughts as he stated that he has been ‘outstanding’ for the Scottish Premiership champions since the turn of the year.
“And mentioning Ajer, I am surprised he wasn’t at least in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year award,” Hartson told the Evening Times. “He has been outstanding since the turn of the year and is a huge prospect.”
Whilst Ajer will be disappointed from an individual standpoint that he wasn’t rewarded, he will be pleased to be walking away with yet another Premiership crown.
Since the turn of the year, Ajer and his teammates have surged towards the title despite Rangers being level on points with them before the winter break.
Now, Neil Lennon’s side will travel to Ibrox this Sunday for the final Old Firm clash of the season as they aim to build some momentum for their Scottish Cup final encounter later on this month.
The Bhoys will take on Craig Levin’s Hearts at Hampden as they chase history by trying to win the treble-treble.
