Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic reportedly wanted Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna in the summer transfer window.
The former Celtic striker made the comments following Celtic’s win against Aberdeen at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership this past weekend.
The 21-year-old defender featured in the match for Aberdeen, as Brendan Rodgers’s side won 1-0.
After the match, Rodgers criticised the youngster for his challenge on Odsonne Edouard during the match, as quoted in The Daily Record.
Celtic wanted to sign McKenna from Aberdeen in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Record.
According to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 59, September 30, 3018), Premier League club Wolves and Villa in the Championship in England have recently scouted the Scotland international defender (click here to read more).
Former Celtic striker Hartson, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, has suggested that McKenna would be a good signing.
Hartson wrote about McKenna in The Glasgow Evening Times: “Had things gone as they could have in the summer window, Scott McKenna could have have been crunching into tackles like that one on Saturday in a Celtic shirt.
“I actually really like the boy as a player although who knows if Odsonne Edouard feels the same.
“I actually think McKenna is an old-fashioned centre-half who is winning the ball now matter what – and there have been many times when we have thought that is exactly what Celtic could do with.”
Good potential signing for Celtic
McKenna – who was valued at £10 million by Aberdeen in the summer, as reported by The Daily Record – is a very good and promising young defender, and the 21-year-old can only get better in the coming years.
It would not be a bad idea for Celtic to make a move for the youngster in the January transfer window.
However, with Wolves and Villa also reportedly interested in the Scotland international, Celtic could face a battle.
