John Hartson has told BT Sport that he believes Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos is currently the best striker in the Scottish Premiership, more so than Celtic forwards Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard.

Morelos, 22, notched his 20th goal of the season in all competitions on Boxing Day, as Rangers failed to hold onto a 1-0 lead over Neil Lennon’s Hibernian. Darren McGregor equalised in the 86th minute to frustrate the Gers.

Despite his lack of discipline that has seen the Colombia international sent off three times this season, as well as picking up 11 yellow cards that saw him miss the 1-1 draw against Dundee and the semi-final loss to Aberdeen.

Former Celtic striker Hartson reckons on current form, ex-HJK Helsinki striker Morelos is better than Celtic’s options in Griffiths and Edouard despite Celtic sitting three points clear.

“Well at the minute, Morelos seems to be the boy in form,” Hartson said. “He’s the leading goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership. The way he stepped up against St. Johnstone – how many times do top goalscorers do that?

“They score last-minute goals. He’s a pest, he’s a handful and he’s a miserable so and so as well. With Griffiths out and Edouard not filling his boots, you’d have to say Morelos.”

Celtic icon Griffiths is currently taking time out from the game to sort out some personal problems, according to Brendan Rodgers. Edouard, meanwhile, has been somewhat inconsistent since his £9million move to Parkhead.

He has scored 14 goals in 31 outings, and the Frenchman was excellent after coming off the bench to score and create another goal in Celtic’s 4-3 win over Aberdeen.
