Celtic ace faces a spell out with an injury.

Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson has told the Evening Times he feels sorry for current star Kristoffer Ajer.

Ajer left the game against Livingston with an injury, after just making his return.

He has made only seven appearances in the league for Celtic this season.

Hartson is urging Celtic to be cautious with Ajer’s latest eye injury and not rush him back.

Ajer has withdrawn from the latest Norway international squad and will be able to spend the next fortnight recovering.

Hartson said: “I feel sorry for the kid because he had just come back into the team after a hamstring injury. He is another player whom I think has a lot to offer and in glimpses he has shown that he really does have something about him as a defender.

“He is only 20 so still has so much to learn about the game but it will be frustrating for him now to be looking at another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“I am sure he could wear a mask to offer some protection but you wouldn’t want him near a pitch unless he is absolutely 100% because it is too serious an injury for any messing about.”

Ajer has the potential to be Celtic’s best defender and he will have a big role to play at the club over the upcoming seasons.

Dedryck Boyata is expected to leave when his contract expires, opening up a path for more game time for the 20-year-old.
