The former Sheffield Wednesday head coach has bounced back into work with Swansea City.
John Hartson has given his verdict on Swansea City’s appointment of Carlos Carvalhal, four days after his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.
Carvalhal, who was linked with a move to Swansea on several occasions during his time with the Owls, left Hillsborough by mutual consent on Christmas Eve.
The Portuguese coach led his old side to the Championship play-offs in each of his two full seasons there, but saw them slip as low as 15th place ahead of his exit.
Nevertheless, Hartson, a lifelong Swansea supporter, believes the decision to hire Carvalhal is a good one.
The former Celtic and Wales striker posted on Twitter: “Carvalhal is a good appointment in my view it gives us stability he has got to 2 play offs under Sheffield wed and missed out .. solid likes to play into frontman. (Jordan) Rhodes, (Steven) Fletcher, (Gary) Hooper.. we have a mountain to climb but we have got to keep the faith !
“Stability in the fact we don’t throw Leon under the bus. New methods.. fresh Ideas gives us an outside hope.. at this rate we have no hope. Huge uphill task if carvalhal keeps us up he is a genius. If we drop he stays on !”
Carvalhal, who has also managed SC Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas JK, finds Swansea rock bottom of the Premier League and five points adrift of 17th-placed West Ham United.
The 52-year-old’s Jacks career kicks off at Watford on Saturday.
Wednesday, meanwhile, do not appear close to naming Carvalhal’s successor, although it is unlikely the Owls will appoint current bookies favourite Steve McClaren, according to BBC Radio Sheffield reporter Rob Staton.
