Rangers winger Barrie McKay is reportedly wanted by RB Leipzig.

Pundit John Hartson has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Celtic star James Forrest must be worth £10m if Rangers ace Barrie McKay is the subject of £6million interest.

McKay, 22, was struggling to make an impact with Rangers before Mark Warburton’s appointment in the summer of 2015, and he scored nine times last season to help Rangers win promotion as well as win a spot in the Scottish Cup final.

The winger has been a regular again this season, and whilst he had his ups and downs earlier in the season, his recent displays have seen McKay get somewhere near back to his best.

In fact, McKay’s displays appear to have attracted major interest, as the Daily Record reported earlier this month that Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig are interested in a £6million move for McKay.

The German side – who beat Rangers 4-0 in a friendly earlier this month – already have one Scottish winger in Oliver Burke, but may look to add another in McKay.

A deal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline looks unlikely, but Leipzig could be interested in the summer – and the rumours have caused a real reaction among fans and pundits.

Former Celtic striker John Hartson has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks McKay has taken his game up a level under Warburton, but thinks that, if McKay is worth £6million, then Celtic winger James Forrest is worth almost double that.

Hartson believes that Forrest is some way ahead of McKay right now, and must be worth £10million to any team who wants him if McKay is being valued at £6million by Leipzig.

“No harm to Barrie McKay, but if he’s worth £6million then Celtic’s James Forrest has to be in the £10m category,” said Hartson. “I’m a big fan of the Rangers lad, he’s a very big talent. His gaffer Mark Warburton deserves credit — not something he’s had much of this season by some of us pundits — for taking McKay’s game up a level.”

“However, put on the spot to pick between McKay and fellow winger Forrest, I’ll go with the Hoops hero. That’s also not bias towards my old club. It’s an honest verdict. I wouldn’t mind either in my side — but Forrest is ahead of McKay, and not by a short way either,” he added.
