Celtic lost Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City last week.

John Hartson commentates during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City at White Hart Lane on May 16, 2015 in London, England.

Celtic hero and current pundit John Hartson has told The Glasgow Evening TImes that he thinks Neil Lennon should be given the Bhoys job permanently right now.

Celtic saw manager Brendan Rodgers leave the club for Leicester City in a shock, quickfire move last week, leaving the Bhoys in a tricky position.

With a third straight treble a real possibility this season, Celtic didn’t really have time for a long managerial search, so brought back former boss Lennon as interim manager.

It’s almost five years since Lennon left Celtic, but having departed Hibs in January, he is now back in management at Celtic – and has won his first two games in charge.

Celtic have months to figure out who they want as permanent manager, but Lennon is in the hot seat now, so he’s in the driving seat for the job.

Now, pundit Hartson has suggested that Celtic should be giving the permanent job to Lennon immediately, citing that he knows the club and the pressure that goes with it having spent four years in charge previously.

Reports from The Sun over the weekend suggested that ex-Celtic defender David Moyes is keen on the job, after being out of work for almost a year now.

David Moyes looks on during the Premier League match between Burnley FC and Brighton & Hove Albion at Turf Moor on December 8, 2018 in Burnley, United Kingdom.

However, Hartson has no interest at all in that, furiously suggesting that Lennon should get the job ahead of somebody like Lennon, believing that there’s nobody else Celtic could get who would be better than the Northern Irishman.

“Give Neil Lennon the Celtic job now,” said Hartson. “What is the point in waiting until the summer? What is the point in having him playing under this kind of pressure between now and the end of the season? Everybody knows Lennon knows the club. He understands everything about the club but more than that, he also understands what it takes to be a successful Celtic player and a successful Celtic manager. He has been over the course before.”

“Just give him the job and let him get on with it. Who else are you going to get in? I don’t see too many Premier League or credible European managers out there who would not cost a fortune to get in – and want a fortune to spend in the transfer market. I’ve heard a few people mention Davie Moyes. Davie Moyes? Give me a break. The job should be Lennon’s,” he added.

Celtic's new interim manager Neil Lennon is unveiled at Celtic Park on February 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.
