Celtic lost to Gibraltar part timers.
Celtic – Brendan Rodgers Press Conference
Brendan Rodgers’ first competitive game as Celtic manager has ended in an embarrassing manner.
The Scottish champions lost the first leg of their Champions League qualifying round match to Gibraltar based side Lincoln Red Imps, defeated 1-0.
John Hartson
Former Celtic star John Hartson was not impressed, while he backs the club to go through in the second leg, he did not hold back in his post match criticism.
Speaking to BT Sport 2’s live coverage, he said: “It was a totally embarrassing night for Celtic Football Club, a ridiculously bad result.”
The Welshman went on to add: “The only positive is they [Red Imps] are not great, I think they [Celtic] will qualify.
“Things will get better under Brendan Rodgers. Things must get better. He will make damn sure things do. He will want new signings.
“He will have learned more than if they had won 5-0. He will have learned a lot about certain players tonight.”
New Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers during the press conference
Celtic have a friendly match at home to Wolfsburg at the weekend, and the pressure will be on to deliver a good performance, before the second leg against Red Imps next week.
Rodgers’ side will be strongly fancied to overturn their deficit, but Brendan Rodgers has put himself under a lot of avoidable pressure with this result, which if they cannot come back from it, will totally ruin his first season in charge.
