Former Celtic striker John Hartson has taken to Twitter to question Scotland manager Gordon Strachan’s continued decision to leave out Hoops hotshot Leigh Griffiths.

Strachan once again left the Bhoys star out of his starting XI for the World Cup qualifier in Slovakia on Tuesday night, instead choosing to go with Steven Fletcher.

That means that Griffiths must still wait for his first start for his country since he played 60 minutes of a friendly win over Denmark on 29 March.

Since that last start, the 26-year-old has scored 13 goals in 20 games for his club, and former Celtic hero Hartson has suggested that record should comfortably be enough to see him given a chance on the international stage.

Hartson tweeted prior to kick-off: “Totally get it’s Gordon Strachan’s prerogative to pick who he wants, but what does Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths need to do to get a game?”

Griffiths will certainly feel that he deserves to have more than just a single substitute appearance to his name in the last six months for Scotland, given his goalscoring form.

Scotland have done alright without the Celtic man, though, earning four points from their first two qualification matches before Tuesday’s clash with Slovakia.
