Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor and and Celtic custodian Craig Gordon are Scotland international teammates.

John Hartson has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic’s Craig Gordon is a better goalkeeper than Rangers ace Allan McGregor.

McGregor, 36, returned to Rangers in the summer transfer window and has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Gordon, 35, has been at Celtic since 2014 and is one of the best goalkeepers in the Scottish Premiership.

Former Celtic and Wales international striker Hartson believes that Gordon – who earns £8000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star – is better than McGregor and would prefer the Hoops star to the Rangers ace for the Scotland national football team.

Hartson wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “I have to say that if I were in Alex McLeish’s shoes, it would be Craig Gordon all the way for me.

“He is a proven goalkeeper at the very top level. He has done it at Champions League level, at international level, at domestic level.

“I mean no disrespect to Allan McGregor either. I think he is a fine goalkeeper, a cracking talent, but for me Craig would be ahead of him.”

Craig Gordon is seen during a Scotland training session ahead of their International friendly match against Belgium at Orium Performance Centre on September 3, 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Alternating

Scotland manager Alex McLeish seems to have a policy of alternating Celtic’s Gordon and Rangers’ McGregor.

While the former Heart of Midlothian and Sunderland goalkeeper featured against Belgium in a friendly international last week, Rangers custodian McGregor was in action for Scotland’s UEFA Nations League Group C1 match against Albania on Monday evening.

Both Celtic and Rangers are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title this season.
