The former striker believes the Toffees will move backwards this season.
Former striker John Hartson has predicted that Everton will finish lower under Ronald Koeman this season than in their previous two disappointing years under Roberto Martinez, writing on his official Twitter account.
The Toffees looked set for what would have been a dreadful defeat at home to struggling side Swansea City on Saturday until Seamus Coleman headed home to equalise in the 89th minute.
However, it is still a hugely disappointing result, and one which sees the Merseyside club’s recent slide continue.
After a great start to life under Koeman, the Toffees have now won just one of their last eight games in all competitions, form which has seen them slip to seventh in the table.
However, responding to a Swansea fan’s assertion that Everton were as bad as the bottom side during the match, Hartson predicted that under Koeman they will move a step backwards from their consecutive 11th-placed finishes under the Dutchman’s predecessor Martinez.
Toffees supporters were not happy with back-to-back bottom-half finishes under Martinez before his sacking, and had been hoping for a return to challenging for European qualification under Koeman.
However, they are suffering from an alarming slide, and they will be shuddering at the thought of Hartson’s prediction being accurate.
