Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic need to sign a number 10 and a centre-back, suggests John Hartson.
John Hartson has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Celtic need to strengthen two areas in the January transfer window.
The former Celtic striker believes that manager Brendan Rodgers needs to sign a dynamic No 10 and centre-back.
The former Wales international has explained his reason for making his suggestion.
“For me, there are two positions that Celtic need strengthened,” Hartson wrote in The Scottish Sun. “Two areas that would make a huge difference.
“First, the team would benefit from a dynamic No 10, someone who can really break through and make runs in behind.”
“Secondly, Celtic could do with a proper, powerhouse centre half — a defender who can dominate in both boxes,” added Hartson.
“Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have done well recently and Kolo Toure’s experience has also been useful.
“But don’t be too surprised if Rodgers is looking to raise the standard in that particular area ahead of Celtic’s next European campaign.”
Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 40 points from 14 matches.
The Glasgow giants got the better of Partick Thistle 4-1 away from home at the Firhill Stadium in the league on Friday evening.
The Hoops will take on Hamilton Academical at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Tuesday evening.
Celtic will almost certainly win the Scottish Premiership title this season, but the Glasgow giants should start thinking of signing players for the 2017-18 campaign.
Hartson’s suggestion is quite valid, and the Hoops could do with a number 10 and a centre-back.
However, the question is whether Celtic would be able to players in those positions who would be better than they already have in their squad.
