Spurs earned a ninth win from 12 by beating Crystal Palace on Saturday.
John Hartson has told the Daily Express that only Manchester City and Liverpool are challenging for the Premier League title, and third place is the best Tottenham Hotspur can hope to achieve.
Spurs continued their excellent start to the Premier League season, with a ninth win in 12 games thanks to Juan Foyth’s first ever league goal for Spurs in just his second Premier League appearance – beating Crystal Palace 1-0.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently lie in fourth place, five points behind leaders Manchester City who sit on 32. Liverpool are on 30, while Chelsea are a point above Spurs in third on 28.
Former Arsenal striker Hartson reckons Spurs are battling it out for third place alongside Chelsea and Manchester United, before stating his old side under Unai Emery also have a chance of finishing in the top four.
“Right now Man City and Liverpool are a fair way away from the rest,” Hartson said. “The football they play and the players that they have. Most teams are playing for third. Chelsea, Tottenham, United.
“How far are Arsenal away? I think they’re a few years behind in terms of challenging for the title. Top four would be a great success because they’ve missed out the last two seasons. They don’t want to make it three.”
Spurs have looked compact in defence, while goals have come from all over the park instead of just Harry Kane. Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura have both been in excellent form in front of goal.
However, the north Londoners have already suffered losses to Manchester City and Liverpool, as well as Watford. Spurs have a tough run of games after the international break, facing Chelsea, Inter Milan and then bitter rivals Arsenal.
