Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in worldwide football.
John Hartson spoke highly of Celtic’s worldwide appeal, when speaking exclusively to the Glasgow Evening Times, suggesting that the Hoops are a different animal to some of England’s bigger clubs.
Celtic has a massive following worldwide, and they are one of the most successful teams in club football, having won 49 domestic league titles and the European Cup in 1967.
Hartson himself played in an extremely successful Hoops side, winning three league titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup during his five-year stint at Parkhead.
The 43-year-old spoke exclusively to the Glasgow Evening Times, and explained just how big a club Celtic are with regards to their worldwide reputation:
“I was privileged last week to be a guest of the Perth Celtic Supporters Association who made me feel particularly welcome – and that is Perth, Australia not Perth just up the road. I have played for big clubs in my career who have a big following. Arsenal and West Ham are known all over the world but there is something different about Celtic.”
Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side are on track to win their 50th league title this season, but what the Hoops fans really want to see, is their club succeeding in Europe again, and the harsh reality is that they are still a long long way from doing just that.
They still remain a massive draw all over the world, however.
