Celtic have signed one player under Brendan Rodgers’ reign.
Speaking to The Times, Celtic legend John Hartson has suggested that manager Brendan Rodgers needs help regarding transfers, with the Welshman that he’d like to see three more players signed this summer – including another striker.
Rodgers, who replaced Ronny Deila this summer, has only signed one player after pulling off a deal for highly-rated French forward Moussa Dembele, paying £500,000 in compensation.
But last week’s Champions League defeat by Lincoln Red Imps has perhaps underlined the importance of continuing to strengthen their ranks ahead of the new season, and Hartson feels that the Northern Irish manager could do with a bit of assistance here.
Celtic have been linked with a lot of names during the transfer window, and the former hitman would like to see his old club three more – a centre-back, a playmaker and a striker.
“At the moment we are not doing anything. Celtic are not doing anything, we’re not bringing anybody in and I think we need to do that. Brendan needs a little bit of help,” he told The Times.
“I think he needs at least three players: He needs a central defender; a creative midfield player and a striker, as well.”
Hartson may be disappointed if he is expecting to see another striker signed. Not only have they signed Dembele, but Leigh Griffiths netted 40 goals in all competitions last term.
It remains to be seen what system Rodgers will go for in the long term, whether Griffiths and the Frenchman will co-exist in a first XI, but either way it seems unlikely that another centre-forward will come in.
