Celtic were beaten by the German side in the Champions League last night.
John Hartson has told BT Sport that he found Brendan Rodgers’s honesty to be “refreshing” following Celtic’s defeat in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Second-half goals from Lars Stindl and Andre Hahn saw Borussia Monchengladbach leave Parkhead with a 2-0 win last night.
Both goals came from Celtic – and Kolo Toure, in particular – shooting themselves in the foot a little.
But even without the mistakes, the Bundesliga side were much stronger on a night which saw the Hoops – who drew 3-3 with Manchester City in the previous matchday – fail to create many clear-cut goalscoring chances.
The Celtic manager admitted as much in his post-match interview with BT Sport, saying his side were simply second best, and Hartson says it was nice to see such honesty.
“It was refreshing to see him be so honest. It was an honest assessment of the game. Borussia Monchengladbach were a lot more dominant in every area.”
The result leaves Celtic rock bottom of Group C and two points behind the German side who have now put themselves in pole position to win the Europa League qualification spot.
Celtic could, in theory, still reach the next phase of the Champions League, with Man City being only three points ahead of them, but it’s a huge ask at this moment in time.
