John Hartson suggests Celtic have done well to get £7 million from Southampton.

Stuart Armstrong is on the verge of clinching a move from Celtic to Southampton.

BBC Sport report a deal is agreed and will be finalised later this week.

Former Celtic striker John Hartson has given his view on the move, and he believes Celtic are most likely winners from the transfer.

John Hartson commentates during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City at White Hart Lane on May 16, 2015 in London, England.

It is claimed by the BBC that the fee will be £7 million plus add ons, and Hartson believes this may even be a case of Southampton overpaying for the 26-year-old.

Hartson told the Glasgow Evening Times: “The move to Southampton is ideal for both parties; the player just never quite hit the heights that he showed in the latter half of Brendan Rodgers’ first season at Celtic and the figures quoted of £7m suggest a pretty good bit of business for the club.”

Armstrong scored 17 goals in all competitions for Celtic in 2016/17, but did not even surpass half that figure last season.

A down year has helped Celtic get him for a fair price, and while Hartson may feel Armstrong is being a little overvalued based on his most recent showing, Southampton’s outlay is still very cheap in today’s transfer market.
