Celtic and Rangers will face each other in the Scottish Cup this afternoon. The Hoops and the Gers will lock horns at Hampden Park in Glasgow in the semi-finals of the prestigious cup competition.
Scott Brown is one of Celtic’s best players, and the Scotland international midfielder is set to feature against Rangers.
The 31-year-old midfielder was shown a red card during Celtic’s 2-2 draw with Ross County in the Scottish Premiership last weekend.
Celtic decided to appeal against the decision, and since the case will not be heard until next week, Brown is free to play against the Gers.
Speaking on the situation, Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha told BBC Sport that Celtic made the right decision in appealing against the decision.
The Express has also quoted Caixinha as saying that that he is happy that Brown is eligible to play against his side.
Former Celtic striker John Hartson, who now work as a pundit for BBC Sport and BT Sport, has given his take on the comments from Caixinha about Brown.
“But I’ll tell you one thing, I’m not buying his argument that he’s glad Scott Brown is free to play,” Hartson wrote in The Scottish Sun. “The Celtic skipper was facing a ban after his red card against Ross County.
“Caixinha said he has no problem with Celtic appealing the sending off because he’d have done the same if one of his players was involved in the same situation. But I don’t believe him when he says he’s happy Broony is playing.”
