Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard reportedly wants to sign Jermain Defoe, but former Celtic striker John Hartson does not see the Bournemouth star at the Gers.

It has been reported that Liverpool legend Gerrard, who has been appointed manager of Rangers, wants to sign his former England international teammate Defoe on a one-year loan deal from Bournemouth.
Former Celtic striker John Hartson, though, cannot see the ex-West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur star move to Rangers this summer.

Hartston told BT Sport: “He’s on £120 grand a week at Bournemouth. How on earth can he come to Rangers? If they want to get him on loan, then they have got to pay half of that. Not Defoe for me.”

Financial issues
Defoe struggled to play regularly for Bournemouth in the Premier League this season, and one suspects that the former Tottenham striker could be tempted to work with Gerrard at Rangers.
However, it is hard to see the Gers afford Defoe’s massive wages, or the 35-year-old English striker take a pay-cut to play for Rangers.
According to The Scottish Sun, Defoe earns £65,000 per week as salary at Bournemouth, and Rangers would be unable to afford that kind of wages.
Moreover, the Cherries themselves may not be willing to let go of a proven Premier League goalscorer who could be important for them next season.
