Former Celtic striker John Hartson has backed Leigh Griffiths to break the 100 goal mark at the club while speaking to the Daily Mail.
Griffiths was the star man for the Scottish champions last season, scoring 40 goals in all competitions.
He has started this campaign in a similar vein, standing on seven goals in nine games in all competitions heading into this weekend’s Old Firm derby.
His current record at Celtic Park is 74 goals in 115 games, an impressive record to say the least.
He is well on course to break the 100-goal barrier for Brendan Rodgers side and Hartson has backed him to do just that, potentially even this season.
“He has 74 goals — I keep an eye on that because I am the last player to score 100,” he told the Daily Mail.
“Leigh Griffiths, if he stays at the football club, will surpass 100 goals for Celtic. You look at him, 40 goals last season, so if he stays fit and playing then I wouldn’t have thought breaking 100 goals this season would be a problem.”
Celtic will certainly be hoping that Griffiths can maintain his fine goal-scoring record this season and beyond.
They will be competing on more fronts this season after securing Champions League football and will need a regular goalscorer if they are to enjoy any success.
The striker will be keen to prove himself again, too, with the arrival of Moussa Dembele and, to some extent, Scott Sinclair, meaning his place is no longer as certain as it once was.
