Glasgow, UNITED KINGDOM: Glasgow Celtic's John Hartson heads the ball towards goal during the 1-1 draw with Hibernian at Celtic Park, Glasgow, 16 April, in the Scottish Premier League....

Former Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson suggested on BT Sport Score on BT Sport 1 last Saturday afternoon (4:01pm, September 23, 2017) that Andy Carroll should have started for West Ham United against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

West Ham lost 3-2 to Tottenham at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Carroll started the London derby on the substitutes’ bench and came on in the 28th minute in place of Michail Antonio.

Slaven Bilic applauds his fans at the end of the Premier League match between Burnley and West Ham United at Turf Moor on May 21, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Former West Ham striker Hartson has asked why the ex-Liverpool and Newcastle United striker was not included in manager Slaven Bilic’s starting lineup.

While analysing the Hammers’ performance against Tottenham, Hartson said on BT Sport Score on BT Sport 1 last Saturday afternoon (4:01pm, September 23, 2017): “And also, Andy Carroll didn’t start. Why didn’t he start because he caused problems when he came on?”

Andy Carroll thanks the fans during a lap of honor after the Premier League match between West Ham United and Liverpool at London Stadium on May 14, 2017 in Stratford, England.

Carroll’s performance after he came on against Tottenham was encouraging, and perhaps West Ham would have been more potent with him in the starting lineup.

The Hammers’ overall performance was quite disappointing, although the fans will be encouraged by the way the players showed character to score twice after going 3-0 down.

West Ham are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with four points from six matches.
