John Hartson has praised former Leeds United hitman Kemar Roofe.
Roofe spent a few years at Leeds but left in 2019 to join Anderlecht.
The 28-year-old striker left Belgium to join Rangers last summer and it has proven an inspired move by Steven Gerrard.
Roofe, sold by Leeds for £7 million [Yorkshire Post], scored 12 goals in helping Gerrard’s side to a first Premiership title in a decade.
And Hartson, speaking to Go Radio, has claimed that you simply don’t play for clubs like the Elland Road side if you aren’t a very talented player.
He said: “Kemar is a good player by the way. You don’t play for clubs like Leeds and then go to Anderlecht [if you are not good]. Steven Gerrard had done his due diligence on him and he would have watched him.”
Rangers will be wanting more from Roofe next season.
Yes, 16 goals across all competitions is a very decent return for your first year in Scotland, but there’s a lot of room for him to grow.
And with Alfredo Morelos potentially leaving, there’ll be an extra goalscoring burden on a lot of Gers stars next term.
That being said, Leeds haven’t missed him.
Despite being the Whites’ top goalscorer for the 2018-19 campaign, he was sold by Marcelo Bielsa’s side and they still wound up securing Premier League promotion the following May.
