John Guidetti enjoyed the second most prolific season of his career on loan at Celtic from Manchester City in 2014/15.
There’s a new coach in charge of Celta Vigo this season and it appears that he is not a fan of John Guidetti.
The Swedish striker has featured just four times in La Liga, all from the bench and totalling just 52 minutes, with former Barcelona assistant Juan Carlos Unzue preferring the prolific summer signing Maxi Gomez (below) in attack instead. Guidetti could hardly be blamed for considering his future at last season’s Europa League semi-finalists, then.
“It is clear that the situation now in my club is not good, I’m not happy with it, it’s something that has to be solved,” the former Manchester City youngster told AS.
“We’ll see what happens, but my situation now at Celta is not sustainable. Obviously I want to play football and I think I deserve to play more.”
Second chance in Scotland?
It remains to be seen if any clubs come in for the 25-year-old in January. And former club Celtic should at least consider giving Guidetti a second chance in Scotland.
The Swede wasn’t exactly consistent during his 2014/15 loan spell at Parkhead, once going ten games without a goal, but he was a real threat when on top of his game. Overall, Guidetti ended the campaign with 15 strikes from 35 games – the second most prolific season of his professional career.
And while Celtic currently have the two best strikers in Scotland to choose from in Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele, though the latter is expected to leave in 2018, Guidetti would give Brendan Rodgers something different in attack.
He’s an old-school, strong-armed frontman who excels when linking the play, offering a potential alternative to the poaching of Dembele and the skill and craft of Griffiths.
But with other areas of Celtic’s squad in need of reinforcement, a new striker is unlikely to be high on the club’s list of priorities.
