Speaking on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy, Leeds legend John Giles has been discussing his former team’s win against Liverpool at the weekend.
The Whites earned an incredibly unlikely victory a Anfield on Saturday, and, to be honest, they were good value for their victory.
The Yorkshire club worked their socks off as they ground out a victory against Jurgen Klopp’s side, and Giles says that this performance reminded him of Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa.
Of course, under Bielsa, Leeds were seen as one of the most exciting and fearless teams in the Premier League, and they certainly showed that sort of spirit at the weekend.

Giles gave his verdict on Leeds’ performance against the Reds.
“I thought Leeds were the better team over the 90 minutes, there was such a change from the previous weeks as far as Leeds were concerned. They were like a Bielsa team, they deserve to win the match, they attacked when they had to and they scored in the last minute,” Giles said.

To say that Leeds need to return to playing as they did under Marcelo Bielsa would be remiss. After all, they were very nearly relegated under the Argentine.
However, they could do with bringing back the level of intensity and bite that they showed under the Argentine.
Indeed, under Bielsa, Leeds left everything on the pitch each and every time they stepped out, and they need to have that sort of attitude if they’re to battle against relegation this season.
Their win against Liverpool can act as the blueprint of how Leeds want to play going forwards and if they can bring that level of performance every week, they won’t go too far wrong.
