Rangers left-back Declan John has put pen to paper on a permanent deal at Ibrox.

Rangers left-back Declan John has completed a permanent move to Ibrox after initially being on loan from Cardiff City following a string of impressive performances, leaving Myles Beerman with a huge challenge on his hands.

John, 23, has impressed on the left side of defence, keeping the likes of Beerman and club captain Lee Wallace out of the side since being signed by Pedro Caixinha in the summer.

Rangers announced on their official website that the Wales international had put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club, just minutes after Graeme Murty was given the job until the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

However, with Wallace acting as John’s back-up in the Gers side, Malta international Beerman faces a huge challenge to prove that he is worthy of a place in their side – as well as his future at Ibrox.

The former Manchester City youth player is now entering the final months of his contract, with Murty seemingly overlooking a deal for the 18-year-old after handing contracts to Jamie Barjonas and Aidan Wilson.

Beerman will have been clinging onto Cardiff wanting to keep John, which would see the Gers’ number 63 jump up the pecking order into second at the end of the season. But now, he is back in third choice.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The youngster must work hard on the training ground to earn Murty’s attention and prove to the 43-year-old manager why he deserves a place in the Light Blues’ side going forward.

But realistically, Beerman may have to wait for a chance in the Scottish Cup or for either Wallace or John to sustain an injury if he is to be given a chance to prove he deserves a new contract. Whatever happens from now until the end of the season, a big challenge awaits Beerman.
