John Daly has never been shy about sharing his views on the game, and one of his past opinions was that the PGA TOUR Champions could use a few major changes.

Despite being open only to players over 50, the senior tour still features some top-level talent.

Daly, who makes occasional appearances on the PGA TOUR Champions, has just one win to his name there.

That hasn’t stopped him from speaking out about it though. Back in 2018, he didn’t hold back in calling for significant changes.

John Daly’s ideas for shaking up the PGA TOUR Champions

Golf’s rulebook is packed with regulations, and keeping up with all of them can be a challenge. Over the years, players have been penalised for all sorts of infractions, and by the time they reach the senior level, John Daly thinks there should be a bit more leniency.

Back in 2018, Daly spoke about how he’d like to see things change to make the events feel more ‘edgy.’

“We’re not getting world ranking points on this tour,” Daly said at the time.

“So let’s have some fun. Who cares (if we anchor)? Our tour got killed on this thing. We’re 50 years or older. We should have more fun. I know it probably won’t change much, but that’s just kind of the way I feel.”

Daly also floated the idea of allowing free drops, even from the fairway, and increasing the club limit beyond 14.

John Daly’s rule suggestions may not catch on

Daly has suggested some unique changes to the TOUR Champions, and while his points aren’t without merit, not every idea feels necessary.

Players are already permitted to use carts, so bringing in even more rule changes could start to pull the tour too far from the core of professional golf.

The suggestion to allow anchoring, for instance, doesn’t seem like it would add much value and might even move the game further away from what these players have built their careers around.

For now, though, LIV Golf and TGL offer plenty of options for those looking for a different kind of experience.
