John Collins has lavished praise on Scott Brown’s latest Celtic performance.
John Collins has told The National that he loved Scott Brown’s performance for Celtic in Sunday’s 3-2 win at Rangers.
The combative Celtic captain was arguably his side’s best performer on the big stage again, inspiring the Hoops to an unlikely victory under the circumstances.
Brendan Rodgers’s side had Jozo Simunovic within 12 minutes of the second half, but Odsonne Edouard grabbed a superb winner afterwards.
Brown kept things ticking over in midfield and also registered a wonderful long-ball assist for Moussa Dembele, who lobbed Wes Foderingham just before the half-time whistle to level the match at 2-2.
And Collins, who worked alongside the 32-year-old at Celtic when he was Ronny Deila’s assistant, says that it was an archetypal performance from the no-nonsense midfielder.
He told The National: “I watched every minute of the game on Sunday. It was just a typical Scott Brown performance.
“He kept it simple and very rarely gave the ball away. He took the ball from the Celtic defenders and gave it to the wingers and No.10 ahead of him.”
It’s on days like that when you wonder if Celtic really need a replacement for Brown, amid occasional links with Hibernian John McGinn and others.
He turns 33 this summer but if his performance at Ibrox is anything to go by then the former Scotland international has a lot more to offer.
