John Collins makes prediction about Everton’s January transfer plans

Everton boss Ronald Koeman is currently under severe pressure at Goodison Park.

John Collins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 19th October, that Everton will surely look to buy a striker with pace in the January transfer window.

Everton have struggled badly for goals this season, with their lack of striking options clearly harming their chances.

Ronald Koeman’s side are yet to find a forward who can lead the line effectively for them, with the Dutch boss having to experiment.

Wayne Rooney, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Sandro Ramirez and Oumar Niasse have all been given game time as Everton’s number nine – but none of the quartet have looked particularly impressive.

And Collins feels that Everton’s lack of pace is proving to be harmful to his former side’s chances.

“There’s huge pressure. They need three points to get the confidence back into the team,” he said.

“So much of their play came through Lukaku, with Baines on one side and Coleman on the other.

“Baines has been struggling to get forward this season, and Coleman’s not there. They don’t have pace at the top of the pitch, and I don’t see enough runners.

“They never got the balance right in the summer. They needed a striker with a bit of pace. It’s nice to pass it, but you’ve got to have pace up-front. I’m sure that’s what he’ll be looking for if he’s still there in the January transfer window.”

Everton’s poor opening to the campaign has ramped the pressure up on manager Ronald Koeman.

The Toffees are currently in 16th place in the Premier League table, with their next domestic match coming against Arsenal.

Everton are in action later this evening, when they take on Lyon in the Europa League at Goodison Park.
