John Carver is optimistic that West Bromwich Albion will soon turn a corner as they look for their first Premier League win for a while.
West Brom are currently languishing just outside the relegation zone in the Premier League, and have not been able to enjoy a victory since August – though they have drawn their last three games in the top flight.
Their form resulted in the end of Tony Pulis’ tenure and Alan Pardew’s appointment as his successor – with Carver arriving at The Hawthorns with him and becoming the club’s new first-team coach.
And after an encouraging performance against Crystal Palace in Pardew’s first game in charge, Carver confidently suggested that brighter times are ahead for the Baggies, while he also offered his first impressions of the squad.
“I have to say, they seem to be a very honest, hard-working group of people who have a thirst for wanting to get better which is what I like,” he told the club’s official website. “They’re only going to get better. We’re all going to get better on the training ground. The more time we spend with them I think you’ll see the group – not just the players, but the staff as well – develop.
“We’ve got a good group but we need the three or four guys who are injured at the moment. It’ll be nice to get them back just before Christmas.”
Three games without defeat will have surely provided the side with a boost, especially when you consider that they should have won the game against Newcastle having gone 2-0 up in Gary Megson’s final game in temporary charge.
And as Carver somewhat alluded to, West Brom have one of the best squads they have had for a long time, so it would certainly be a major surprise if they find themselves in such a precarious position come the end of the campaign.
