John Carver seems to rate Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic highly.
John Carver said on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning that Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic can become a club legend like Alan Shearer.
“He could be one that they worship,” said the former Newcastle head coach. “If he scores goals and he does the job that they are expecting him to do, then he could become a cult hero.”
Mitrovic joined Newcastle from Belgian giants Anderlecht in the summer transfer window.
The Serbia international striker did not start his Premier League career on a positive note, as he had disciplinary problems initially.
However, the 21-year-old appears to have realised his problem and has been playing well for the past few weeks.
Mitrovic has scored two goals and created four chances in 10 Premier League appearances so far this season.
The former Partizan Belgrade youngster has a pass accuracy of 71% and a shot accuracy of 43%, and has won 29 headers, eight dribbles and three tackles.
Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League table at the moment with 10 points from 12 matches, just two points above the relegation zone.
Steve McClaren’s side will take on Leicester City at St. James’ Park in the league after the two-week international break.
