Newcastle United take on West Ham United knowing that they need a win to stay in the Premier League.

John Carver has suggested in the Shields Gazette that two of Newcastle United’s injured squad members could return for their crucial match against West Ham United.

Newcastle take on West Ham knowing that they need to win to ensure that they stay in the Premier League, and they will be looking to field their strongest possible side as a result.

So far during his time at St. James’ Park, Carver has had to deal with an injury crisis, but it seems that a number of his key could be on the verge of returning.

Siem De Jong and Papiss Cisse have both missed sizable chunks of the campaign so far, but they could be in-line to start against the Hammers.

“Siem trained on Tuesday and Wednesday, so we’ll see,” he said. “After that, everybody else who was available before the QPR game is available for selection.

“Papiss has had another week of training, and that’s important. He’s the club’s top goalscorer, so that’s obviously something that comes into your thinking.”

De Jong has barely featured at all this season, with a succession of injury problems preventing him from featuring for Newcastle as often as he would have liked.

Cisse, meanwhile, has persistently failed to stay fit – while also being forced to serve a lengthy suspension – and he has only been able to come on as an impact substitute of late.

If he is able to start on Sunday that will be a major boost, as he carries more of a goal-threat than any other player in the Magpies’ squad.
