Newcastle United are still looking for their first win of the Premier League season.
Former Newcastle United boss John Carver has criticised Steve McClaren’s management of Vurnon Anita in the Chronicle.
Carver had a disastrous spell as the Magpies’ manager for the back end of last term, but he feels that his successor is making a lot of mistakes.
Carver particularly feels that McClaren’s management of Anita has been poor, with the 50-year-old suggesting the Dutch midfielder is being played out of position.
“Look at Vurnon Anita playing a man-marking job against West Ham [United],” Carver said. “I would never have asked him to do that because I don’t think he can. It didn’t work and Steve will have realised that.”
At West Ham, Anita was given the job of taking Dimitri Payet out of the game and it didn’t work effectively.
The defensive midfielder struggled to keep tabs on Payet, with the West Ham man scoring both goals in a 2-0 win for his side.
Newcastle’s performance at Upton Park summed up most the problems that have faced this season, and showed why they are at the bottom of the league.
The Magpies are still looking for their first win of the new campaign, and their lack of goals is a serious worry.
