The failed wonderkid had nothing but good words to say about Spurs.
Back in October 2007 the Daily Mail ran an article titled ‘Meet John Bostock, aged 15, the boy Barcelona can’t buy’. It was a ringing endorsement of the English midfielder’s potential future talents.
Bostock made his debut for Crystal Palace aged 15 and from there he became the world’s most wanted youngster – with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all linked with the player.
John Bostock – Tottenham Hotspur
But it was Tottenham Hotspur who managed to tie him down in what was a controversial transfer back in 2008.
It was a move that eventually proved unsuccessful as Bostock never made a telling impact at White Hart Lane.
But the 24-year-old has now made it clear that he only has positive memories of his time at Spurs. He is quoted by Lensois as stating:
Swindon Town’s John Bostock in action
“When I look back on my career at Tottenham, there are only good memories. There was some of the best (players) in Europe, such as Luka Modric, Rafael Van der Vaart, Gareth Bale.
“I had one wish was to show what I was capable of. But we must respect the established order. I train with them was already amazing, it really helped me to progress and it was a great honour to have worked with Luka Modric…”
Since leaving Spurs Bostock has got his career back on track. A spell at Royal Antwerp in Belgium got him away from the media glare and he went on to join another Belgian side, OH Leuven, where he won the Belgian second division player of the season last term.
Tottenham’s Luka Modric (L) and AC Milan’s Alexandre Pato
That earned him a move to Ligue 2 side RC Lens in France. He has been in excellent form so far this season, scoring six goals in 18 games so far this season and becoming a regular in the club’s midfield.
No doubt his Tottenham Hotspur experience was tough, but the 24-year-old now finally looks to be living up to some of his talent.
