Steven Gerrard was appointed the manager of Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2018.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard
Liverpool legend Barnes, who had a spell as Celtic manager back in 1999-2000, believes that Rangers boss Gerrard has conducted himself well during his time as the Ibrox club’s manager so far.
Barnes has also said that it will take Rangers time to get back to the level where Celtic currently are.
Barnes wrote about Gerrard in The Glasgow Evening Times: “He has done as well as can be expected. They were comfortably second. One of the things about Rangers is it will take time for them to get back to where they want to be, which is equal to Celtic.
“When I came to Glasgow, Celtic were equal to Rangers in that respect. I remember feeling sorry for Rangers managers as I didn’t feel they were given time and the expectations were too high.
“They have accepted they now have to make little steps to be closer to get back to where they were 10 to 15 years ago when they were equal. I’ve been very impressed with how Steven has conducted himself.”

Rangers progress
Rangers did not win the Scottish Premiership title this past season or clinch any other major silverware, but the Gers did show signs of progress.
The Gers finished second in the league table this past campaign, and before the mid-season winter break, Gerrard’s team were giving Celtic a hard time in terms of the title race.
Gerrard has done well at Rangers, and the Ibrox faithful will know that this is just the start of what could be a glorious managerial spell for the Liverpool legend at the Gers.
