John Barnes has said on Sky Sports Football (5:38pm, April 23, 2021) that bringing Rangers and Celtic to the Premier League would not be fair.
Rangers and Celtic have long been talked about being brought to the English football pyramid.
The Scottish Sun reported yesterday that the Premier League now want Rangers and Celtic to join them.
The Gers and the Hoops are the two biggest clubs in Scotland, and having them in the Premier League would make the top flight of English football stronger.
Former Celtic manager Barnes has pointed out that taking Celtic and Rangers out of Scotland would not be fair on the Scottish league, just as the European Super League would not have been fair on the Premier League.
Barnes said on Sky Sports Football (5:38pm, April 23, 2021): “I don’t see how we could do that because if we are talking about being fair, if we take Celtic and Rangers out of Scotland, which will make the Premier League stronger because we have got two great teams, how is that going to affect the rest of the Scottish league and grassroots in Scotland? So we can’t have it both ways.”

Good argument
Rangers and Celtic would earn a lot of money and would achieve a lot of success in England, but the Gers and Bhoys leaving would put Scotland in a bad shape.
With no Rangers and Celtic, it is hard to see the likes of Sky and BT paying too much money to get broadcasting deals, and that would be detrimental to Scottish football.
