Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side are expected to push Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic all the way this season.

Former Celtic boss John Barnes spoke exclusively to talkSPORT about Rangers’ recent resurgence, and highlighted how the recent disharmony at Parkhead has played a major part in Steven Gerrard’s men closing the gap on Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The Hoops have so far failed to adequately strengthen their squad, whilst the Gers have had a massive turnaround at Ibrox, with Gerrard bringing in 13 new faces this summer.
Cektic are looking for their eighth league title in a row this season, but many fans and pundits alike are predicting that Rangers will push them all the way.
Barnes, who spent an unsuccessful spell in charge of Celtic from 1999-2000, outlined his theory as to why Rangers have closed the gap on their bitter rivals this season, when speaking exclusively to talkSPORT:

“I think Rangers are closer to Celtic, and a lot of that is to so with the disharmony at Celtic. I mean in the last couple of years Celtic have been so far ahead of Rangers, but this year where Brendan hasn’t got the signings he wanted, there doesn’t seem to be the harmony there.”
The two Glasgow giants meet on Sunday in the first Old Firm game of the season, and it is arguably the most significant clash between the pair over the past six years.
