John Barnes delivered his verdict on the upcoming Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool, when speaking exclusively to the Sport Review, suggesting that it will be an evenly matched contest in Madrid.

Spurs and the Reds produced dramatic comebacks in the semi-finals of the competition, and they will both fancy their chances of lifting Europe’s premier trophy on June 1st.

Tottenham finished off their Premier League campaign in rather poor fashion, winning just three of their final 10 games, whilst Liverpool were unfortunate not to win the league, taking maximum points from their last 10 outings domestically.

Barnes suggested that the final in Madrid will be very evenly matched, however, when speaking exclusively to the Sport Review, suggesting that neither side should be classed as favourites heading into the contest:

“They are two good teams who are equally as capable. We beat them twice this season but the 2-1 victory at home we were very fortunate to beat them. Tottenham know about us and they are strong and physical. I don’t necessarily make anybody favourites. Anything can happen and I hope we can do it.”

Despite Barnes’s comments, Liverpool must surely be the favourites to win, considering how inconsistent Tottenham have been over the past few months.

Obviously anything can happen in a final, however, and both sides will have to be on their very best form, if they are to leave Madrid victorious.
