Liverpool recorded a goalless draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
John Barnes has had a pop at some Liverpool fans for their ‘negative sounds’ following their side’s 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, who were without key man Virgil van Dijk in defence, secured a clean sheet against the German club in the last-16 first leg European tie.
It remains to be seen who actually does have the advantage going into the second leg in Germany but considering the Reds had a makeshift defence, they will be pretty pleased they didn’t concede an away goal.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show (20/02/2019), Barnes insisted that it is not all ‘doom and gloom’ for the club as he reminded supporters that they are still doing well in the Premier League.
“I’m not particularly happy with negative sounds coming from some Liverpool fans, not all of them, but just a few of them,” Barnes told talkSPORT.
“We still are top of the league if we can get a draw with our game in hand. We have lost one game. So, it is not all doom and gloom.
“It goes to show how far Liverpool have come that people are disappointed with a 0-0 draw against Bayern, who are a fantastic team.”
The next month is going to be crucial to Liverpool’s season, both in the Premier League and the Champions League as they have a number of big games coming up.
They face bitter rivals Manchester United this Sunday in what could be a season-defining 90 minutes of football for the Merseyside club’s ambitions to win the title.
Added with that, they also have to make the short trip to their near neighbours, Everton next month before that all-important return leg in Germany on March 13.
A positive run of results in these matches could result in Klopp ending the season with a trophy, but poor performances and results could potentially see them drop like a stone.
