Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League table.

Liverpool legend John Barnes has told the Mirror that he thinks Jurgen Klopp’s wisdom is being overlooked because the Reds have been so entertaining.

The German boss celebrates a year in charge at Anfield on Saturday after replacing Brendan Rodgers at the club last season.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the club under his leadership, with last season seeing them reach both the Capital One Cup final and Europa League final.

This season has seen them start in strong fashion, with impressive wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City already under their belts.

They have arguably been the most entertaining side so far, scoring the most goals of any Premier League team at this stage.

While that is positive, Barnes believes it may be distracting from just how smart that Klopp is.

“I’ve got nothing but positives about Klopp,” he told the Mirror.

“Even last year, when he came, we didn’t finish in the top four but the fans supported him because they could see what he was trying to do.

“As much as we talk of him being entertaining, he’s very wise and knows what he’s doing. He knows how to get results — I’m less concerned with whether he’s entertaining and more about the ability he has.”

It remains to be seen just how well Liverpool do in Klopp’s first season in charge this year.

They have started the season strongly, to say the least, and certainly look like they will be challenging for a top-four place at least.

To do any better will take all of Klopp’s nous and if they can, then there will be more than just Barnes discussing the German manager’s wisdom.
