The Liverpool youngster captained the side against Southampton after recently signing a new deal at Anfield.

Former Liverpool full-back John Arne Riise was delighted for one of the Reds’ current charges on Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, Jon Flanagan – who looks like a Liverpool hero in the making right now – capped a great week where he was given a new deal with the club by captaining the side against Southampton.

Things didn’t go as smoothly on the pitch for Jurgen Klopp’s men at St Mary’s, of course, but Riise was delighted for Flanagan, sending him a special pre-match message on Twitter.

The Norwegian congratulated ‘Flano’ on his new deal and being named skipper, suggesting the defender is fully deserving of both.

Things are now looking bright for Liverpool and Flanagan under Klopp. And that’s even without a full summer transfer window or pre-season with the German in charge.

The Reds boss appears to excel in improving an existing squad yet will need to add in the transfer market. Martin Skrtel looks a total liability, which is a sad sight considering what he has done for Liverpool over the years.

A handful of signings would no doubt prove useful, while Klopp has proved he can work wonders with some of those already at Anfield.
