Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has told Goal that he believes the Reds can challenge for the title this season.
The Reds have started the campaign in fine form and currently sit fourth in the table after seven games.
They have already picked up 16 points and sit just two behind league leaders Manchester City.
For many, they are outside contenders for the title, especially after their impressive wins over the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City.

And Riise has backed them to challenge but has doubts about whether they will come away with their first Premier League crown.
“I think Liverpool will be there to challenge but I think City are too strong,” he told Goal.
“[The] good thing about this season is that Liverpool don’t have many games. They only have the Premier League and the domestic cups. It’s going to be a big advantage for them.”

If Liverpool are to be title challengers by the end of the campaign, they will have to show significant improvement defensively.
They have conceded the most goals of the current top four so far. Indeed, their record is the worst of all the teams in the top half of the table. ]
That is a major flaw and as Brendan Rodgers side discovered to their cost, not something that can continue if they are to be title winners at the end of the campaign.
