John Aldridge has questioned why Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp isn’t utilising Takumi Minamino a little more.
The Reds’ sporting director Michael Edwards signed the Japan international for £7.2 million last December.
But despite arriving at Liverpool with a lot of potential, Minamino hasn’t done much to fulfill it yet.
Even this season, the 25-year-old has only managed 280 minutes of Premier League football and hasn’t played in this competition since the 7-0 win at Crystal Palace on December 19.
Incidentally, Liverpool haven’t won any of their four league games since then – losing one, drawing three.
And Aldridge can’t believe that Klopp isn’t making better use of him at the moment, given that Klopp’s side have scored once since the demolition at Selhurst Park over a month ago.
He told The Irish Independent: “I think it’s strange he [Klopp] hasn’t looked at Minamino with Firmino below his best. I thought he might have got 25 minutes at least against United but for some reason, he is not getting the time.”
Now is the time for the Liverpool boss to use Minamino who, incidentally, did start and did score in the club’s last Premier League victory.
To have not played in the Premier League since then is definitely a tad confusing but with Roberto Firmino gone off the boil, what’s the harm in Klopp using him away to Manchester United in the FA Cup this weekend?
